Create a Zipped File Archive

This speedy tutorial will show you how to create a zipped, or compressed archive of files. WinZip is available for Windows. Mac users will want to use either Zipit or Stuffit to create archives.

You'll want to zip files to save room when downloading, or if you have a group of files you want to get off of your computer, but want to save just in case. It does seem that the minute you delete a file you find out that you'll need it again!

Download and install WinZip. Open WinZip, Select New. You'll see the screen below. Type in a file name for your archive - and please remember to end your zip files in the ".zip" file extension! In the example below, we named the archive halloween.zip.

Click OK. Next, you'll add the files you want to zip up. Select the file name or names, and click the Add icon. Continue to add files.

When you're done adding files, you'll be able to look over the files you've added, as seen in the above screen shot. If you've added a file and need to delete it, select the file and use the Delete key or Control+D to delete.
