The project
MATEYS Bar & Restaurant is on Franklin Street in Michigan City, Indiana, close to the marina, the beach, the outlet mall and the casino boat. It has three floors and five bars, each with a different feel, so a group can barhop all night without moving the car.
We designed and built a website that feels like the place: the pirate logo, weathered wood and sea-blue boards, and torn-paper cards for the content. Behind the look, the job is simple. Show the menus, explain each bar, and make it easy to plan a party.
The menus
The menus page opens on the food menu, with tabs for drinks, happy hour and kids along the top. Each item in the Food & Drinks dropdown links to its own menu, so nobody scrolls past the kids menu to find happy hour.
The food menu keeps the restaurant's own printed design, life ring and all: appetizers and shareables, specialty flatbreads, baskets, burgers and the wings MATEYS calls soon to be famous.
Mobile-first
Every page was designed for the phone first. An announcement bar at the top tells guests the building is non-smoking and the ground floor is family-friendly, and the menu groups everything into four headings: Food & Drinks, Attractions, Events & Parties and Location.
Parties and catering
Parties get their own section in the menu. The Plan a Party page promotes holiday parties in the MATEYS Chart Room, which is open year round, with the address and phone number right on the flyer.
The catering page offers Michigan City catering of any size and budget. A short form asks for a name, email, phone and a few lines about the event, and the team follows up with a custom catering plan.
The attractions
Each attraction gets its own page. The Tiki Deck brings a piece of the Florida Keys to Indiana, with Lake Michigan views and margaritas. The Sports & Chart Room has games, live sports with the NFL package and live entertainment. The Crows Nest is the highest point in the building, a quieter spot for sunset drinks.
The home page slideshow speaks to the people who come by water and by car, from Boaters Welcome to family dining on the lake view outdoor decks.
Food and fun
The site uses MATEYS' own photos of the food, the bands and the rooms, so guests know what they're walking into before they park.
